Before we get into the specifics of micro-needling, it is key to mention that your first step may be the most important – Step 1 Do your research.
Micro-needling is not a run of the mill procedure and is should only be performed by licensed professionals. It is not only important to consider if the procedure is right for you, but to align yourself with a team of professionals, backed by a reputable clinic to help you every step of the way, from start to finish.
What is Micro-needling?
Micro-needling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT, is a procedure that involves repeat puncturing of the skin by numerous, tiny sterilized needles housed in either a pen-like device or roller. The device moves along the skin, creating tiny punctures which, in turn, prompts the body to create new collagen and elastin fibers – key factors in the development of connective tissue. This reaction causes the skin to thicken, reducing the appearance of imperfections. The goal of Micro-needling is to rejuvenate the skin while reducing the appearance of scars, wrinkles and other signs of aging.
When it comes to micro-needling devices, Lotus employs a range of methods, more specifically eDermastamp® and Dermaroller®, that have been fully approved by Health Canada and are proven to achieve results.
What can I expect?
Before undergoing treatment, it is recommended that you book a consultation to ensure micro-needling is right for you. Micro-needling is not a band aid solution, and patients should expect to undergo 3-6 treatments to achieve projected results.
Our treatments are suitable for all skin tones. By employing the assistive qualities found in our recommended numbing cream, the feeling of the treatment can be less invasive than you might imagine – In fact the procedure may feel closer to exfoliation.
There are a variety of solutions and suppliers on the market today, but when it comes to safety and professionalism, you can trust in the staff at Lotus. We pride ourselves on the safety, professionalism and confidentiality of the clinic. Lotus is a cosmetic surgery centre and medispa, meaning all services are backed by a fully trained and licensed staff including the on-premises services of Dr. Nicolas M. Hynes MSc, MD, FRCS(C).
Is Micro-needling right for you?
Remember to do your research as not all machines or clinics are created equal. Understand your goals and outcomes, and by all means, feel free to ask questions. Micro-needling is a procedure to be taken seriously. It may sound scary to some, but when performed by trained professionals, it is a safe and effective way to combat those pesky wrinkles, scars and other signs of ageing.
